Toyota continues to build on the Tacoma’s reputation as one of America’s most capable midsize pickups. The 2026 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4×4 Double Cab is a truck designed for work, recreation and everyday driving, with plenty of technology and comfort added to the package.
My test vehicle arrived in attractive Heritage Blue with final assembly completed in Baja California, Mexico. Power comes from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Although Toyota offers Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes, I found Eco mode provided more than enough power for nearly all driving situations. There was little need to switch into Sport mode during my week behind the wheel.

The Tacoma delivered a confident ride with excellent road stability. Bilstein front shocks and a rear coil-spring suspension handled Colorado roads comfortably while maintaining the rugged capability buyers expect from the TRD Off-Road package.
Exterior styling is highlighted by LED lighting and practical fog lights, a welcome feature during Colorado’s changing weather and mountain driving conditions. A power tailgate adds convenience when loading cargo.
Inside, the Double Cab provides generous passenger room and a comfortable driver’s seat with lumbar support. Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 suite supplies an impressive collection of driver-assistance technologies, while the JBL premium audio system delivers excellent sound quality through six speakers and an added subwoofer.
One feature that particularly caught my attention was the availability of both 400-watt and 120-volt AC power outlets. Whether powering tools at a job site, charging equipment at a campsite or providing emergency household power, these outlets add real-world versatility.
The Tacoma earned an EPA estimate of 21 mpg during my test, a respectable figure for a well-equipped four-wheel-drive pickup with this level of capability.
The base price of the Tacoma TRD Off-Road is $43,515. My test truck carried nearly $9,000 in optional equipment, bringing the manufacturer’s suggested retail price to $53,614. After reviewing the option list, I found the added features worthwhile for buyers who plan to use the truck’s full range of capabilities.
The 2026 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road is a capable, comfortable and well-engineered pickup that feels equally at home commuting through town, exploring Colorado back roads or tackling weekend projects. It combines everyday practicality with genuine off-road ability, making it an excellent choice for drivers who want one truck that can do almost everything.
