Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams and Cherry Creek Republican Women President Joy Hoffman
BY SCOTTIE IVERSON
Wayne Williams, Colorado’s 38th secretary of state, received more votes than any other in the state’s history. He was the first sitting county election official (El Paso County clerk and recorder) elected as Colorado secretary of state and is the first to earn the nationally recognized Certified Elections/Registration Administrator designation.
Williams, who is running for re-election, had the opportunity to address members and guests of Cherry Creek Republican Women recently, explaining the new world of primary elections in Colorado.
Colorado has a record number of registered voters and is No. 1 in the nation.
Unaffiliated voters vote at a lower rate than those affiliated. However, this year unaffiliated voters will receive two ballots, one with Republican candidates and one with Democrat candidates, and must choose one or the other, not both. Needless to say, the race is on to capture the interest and vote of independents.
