Colorado’s oldest volunteer opera support group is holding the 34th Annual Competition for Colorado Singers Saturday, March 10 and Saturday, March 24. Forty-two singers ages 22-32 from area university opera programs will compete for $33,000 in cash awards.
The Denver Lyric Opera Guild, founded in 1965 has given well over $1 million to support aspiring young opera singers both at the competition and with grants to apprentice singers’ programs at all the Front Range opera companies.
These events are free and open to the public. No reservations are required. Drop in for an hour or two, or stay for the entire competition.
Competition for Colorado Singers will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church, 6500 E. Girard Ave. (Hampden and Monoco) with preliminaries on Saturday, March 10 between, 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Forty-two singers will compete and 15 finalists will be selected by a panel of three judges.
Then the finals will be held Saturday, March 24 between 1 and 5 p.m.
Ten finalists will win cash awards ranging from $6,000 to $1,000.
