As a proud American of Ethiopian origin, I will outline the reason for my decision to vote Mike Coffman for mayor of Aurora. Aurora is truly going to need a mayor who will deliberately and meticulously remove undesirable elements that threatens public safety. Aurora has grown in the last couple of years; unfortunately the crime rate has also grown to unacceptable levels. It is estimated that crime in Aurora has increased by 76% since 2014. This is dangerous and unstainable.
Aurora has been welcoming and accommodating many new immigrants to the city. For many immigrants, Aurora is attractive as most new arrivals have limited resources for a down payment on a house. Aurora is affordable and close to a big metropolis, that makes the commute to good jobs attainable.
Mike has extensive experience in managing big and complex projects. I am voting for Mike because of his proven track record and ability to navigate and find solutions to real problems. The way Mike solved the overrun budget and delay of the new VA Hospital is an adequate example of his leadership ability. Mike is determined to equip and bring resources to our police in Aurora, so law enforcement can do its job. Mike is determined to make Aurora a safer city so people can work and play without fear. Firefighters will also receive additional funding. Mike will ensure our first responders are properly outfitted, as they are putting their lives on the line on a daily basis.
In many immigrant communities Mike has been supportive in more ways than one. That is the reason why leaders in the Korean community, including Sueige Park, are endorsing Mike Coffman for mayor. African community leaders like Ousmane are all for Mike. Girum Alemayehu, a business owner in Aurora, is working hard to help our friend Mike become the next mayor of Aurora.
On a personal note, I will never forget April 15, 2015 when 30 Ethiopian Christians were shot and beheaded by ISIS in Libya. Mike Coffman came to Ethiopian churches and mosques and comforted all of us. Mike is a humanitarian who is always there for people in need.
As my friend George Brauchler, the District Attorney for 18th Judicial District indicated, “Mike Coffman fought for our country overseas. As mayor, Mike will fight to protect our flag and everything it represents: Freedom, tolerance and the rule of law”.
You are correct George. As our new mayor, Mike will give priority to law and order.
Let us all vote and make sure that we get the mayor that we deserve and our children could be proud of 15 years from now. Mike is a battle tested leader who will ensure that all citizens live a happy and productive life.
