Englewood Police Officers responded to a parking garage in the area of East Hampden Avenue and South Washington Street the morning of Jan. 16, on a report of an of an occupied stolen vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers located the stolen vehicle, which was occupied by two individuals. During the interaction, Chayley Nicole Tolin, 26, allegedly tried to flee the area and attempted to drive over officers on scene. She was shot during the altercation and transported to a hospital. After released from the hospital, Tolin was jailed at the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office on the charge of criminal attempted first degree murder of a peace officer.
James Helms, 35 was taken into custody during the contact and held for an outstanding warrant. No officers were injured during the incident, and there is no threat to the community.
The “officer(s)” involved in this incident have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard protocol anytime there is an officer-involved-shooting, according to information released by the Englewood Police Department. The investigation has been turned over to the 18th Judicial District Critical Response Team.
