I’m always very pleased when I find a luxurious Genesis GV80 coupe arriving for a test drive. The latest “Bering Blue” luxury sedan has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $87,790 and was a memorable driving experience. The interior is welcoming with “Ultramaraine Blue” ambience, sitting on real “Nappa” leather seats with carbon fiber trim, leatherette wrapped upper instrument panel, and microfiber suede headliner and pillars. The front seats have 4-way lumbar with “ergo” motion for the driver seat that add to the driving excitement.
Along with the beauty and comfort of the interior, outside the exterior has a “British” Rolls Royce styling and feeling of wealth and power. The GV80 rides high on 22” inch split alloy wheels, has a full panoramic sunroof, power door closings, and hands free power lift gate. The second row of power seats are heated and ventilated. Bang & Olufsen premium sound fills the cabin with active noise control.
Along with the luxurious interior comes the best of all with the 3.5L twin-turbo V6 engine with a 48V supercharger that gives this coupe exceptional performance for a large sedan. Fuel economy averages 20 mpg overall. The engine in this GV80 has the best sound of any motor I’ve ever heard it just purrs. Both the engine and transmission are manufactured in South Korea, with a newly elected president recently. Backing up the Genesis is one of the best warranties in the industry with a 10 year/100,000 warranty, very important with this power-packed turbo power train.
Safety is a major concern with so much high-speed traffic on the roadways. Most drivers are in a hurry and drive too fast; vehicles pass rapidly if you drive the posted speed limit. I find that it is best to drive with the flow of the traffic, not weaving in and out, or passing, just to gain several car lengths. Again, with the overloaded highways, just take a little more time, be patient and listen to the radio and stay off the smart phone while driving. I’m not taking calls while driving anymore, not because of the new law, but for my own safety and that of others. You do the same!
Genesis is loaded with safety features that include all the lane departure warnings and forward collision avoidance. A fine new feature is the blind spot digital monitor screens.
