President of FON is Greta Pollard, a co-founder and the first president of the Friends of Nursing of the University of Denver. When the University discontinued it’s Nurse Program, FON continued providing scholarships for Nurse Candidates and became it’s own 501C3.
The organization now accepts applications from all 9 of Colorado’s nursing programs:
Adams State University in Alamosa; Colorado Christian University in Lakewood; Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction; Colorado State University @ Pueblo; Metropolitan State University of Denver; Regis University/Loretto Heights School of Nursing; University of Denver, Colorado Springs; University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Campus; University of Northern Colorado, Greeley.
Scholarships are made possible through generous gifts from people who understand the value of the nursing role in health care. This year’s Scholarship Luncheon will be in October.
Activities were sparce during the Covid Pandemic but things are on-a-roll again! There will be a Christmas Boutique and Silent Auction at the October 16 Scholarship Luncheon, staged at the Wellshire Event Center on Colorado Blvd. and on December 12 the FON Christmas Event at the same venue will be the 40th Anniversary of their “Old Fashioned Christmas,” held for many years at the former Phipps Mansion.
