Sunday afternoon the Broncos had a great rally and went for the two-point conversion; I wanted the tie and overtime. The Bears were worn out I thought, and we can beat them in overtime. Not to be, and we made the two points with 57 seconds left in the game. Victory at last!
But the Bears shocked the Broncos, the defense thought the game was over and let the team advance. A penalty gave them life and the Bears kicker made a 53-yard kick to win the game for the Chicago club. A great victory for them, and a crushing disappointment for the Broncos who seconds before were celebrating a great come from behind and presumed victory.
I think that the Broncos just may have come together as a team in those last few minutes with the late rally. Flaco guided the team skillfully and made some great plays advancing to the goal line twice. First a fluke interception and then the second pass to the corner for the touchdown. A bold call to go for two points and the supposed win.
While there is blame, how can we be too hard on the team when they made two drives in the last minutes of the game. It wasn’t the offence that lost the game but the defense in giving up those yards in the final seconds. It was a cheap call on roughing the quarterback that gave the Bears new life.
If you didn’t watch the game, you missed a classic on how to turn victory into defeat in less than a minute.
Fans certainly were entertained and felt elated over the two-point conversion and the apparent Bronco victory.
With the loss may come some wisdom but there is no doubt the offense really came to life. The pre-season was a bad joke for our regular team, they didn’t play at all and now have two losing games into the season. But, they are now starting to look like a football team.
Sporting events are like life itself, seconds and inches do count!
