I had the privilege of meeting Vice-President Joe Biden on several occasions through my association with The National Newspaper Association with offices in Washington. D.C.
Early in the Obama administration he spoke to around 300 newspaper publishers from across the United States at an NNA governmental affairs conference.
He proposed that Iraq should be partitioned into three separate countries for Shea, Sunni, and Kurds, and the oil revenues split among the three new states. That never happened, but it made sense then, and even today.
His other topic was protecting Taiwan from Communist China. He asked the audience how many of us would send our sons and daughters to defend the independent island from China, if attacked.
Not a single arm was raised.
I was on the Vice-President’s mailing list during his vice-presidency and have followed his recent run for president. In my opinion of the entire field of Democrat candidates he is the only moderate in the crowded contest.
He, like President Trump, is attacked for his age and some of his rhetoric. Both men have successful careers with President Trump the newcomer to politics and Joe the 45 years Washington veteran.
If Joe Biden is the nominee, the two men will square off on many issues and especially foreign policy dealing with China.
I think that Joe Biden is the best candidate that the Democratic party has at this time in the early candidate selection process with a long way to go to the final ticket.
The political pundits seem to think that the progressive socialist candidates will take Biden down with his age and moderate views.
Other candidates are gaining on Joe and we’ll watch the next debates with keen interests to see what new policies and issues arise.
The upcoming 2020 election will be a historical event.
