In 2005, CampExperience Founder Betsy Wiersma and 15 friends collaborated. The brainstorming session pondered the possibility “what if we had a ‘summer camp’ for us…”
By 2006, there was a Camp. To date, the catalyst for positive personal and professional success has raised $247,000 for women’s empowerment charities, collected 30,000 pounds of donated goods for charity partners and touched the lives of a couple thousand women through its concept “Sisterhood by Choice” while having fun.
“I was inspired to have a ‘purpose built life’ around the parenting of our adopted baby girl (now 12 years old) and giving back to women. I needed a flexible career that used all my skills and talents for good. And I wanted women to ‘enjoy the ride’ and have fun on our journey,” Wiersma said.
The organization’s calendar is packed with events meeting at set venues, including Greenwood Village, twice per month to accommodate women living in various sectors of the metro area. The mission is to build lives, careers and connections while helping other women in need. The highlight of the year’s interactions is the CampExperience Annual Educational Retreat for Amazing Women. Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs is the location for the Friday-Saturday, Sept. 19-20, gathering of women to renew, recharge, relax, refresh, recognize and respond.
