CENTENIAL – In consideration of the tight economy, the community is invited to stretch their book budget even further by visiting the Friends of the Arapahoe Library District annual Used Book Sale from Sept. 9-12.

The sale will be at the Koelbel Library, a branch of the Arapahoe Library District, 5955 S. Holly St., at Orchard Road and South Holly Street, Centennial, from 9 a.m. – 8:30 p.m., Sept. 9, from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Sept. 10 and 11, and from 1 – 4:30 p.m. Sept. 12.

To kick-off the annual sale, there will be a special Preview Sale featuring noteworthy and collectible books in the “Collector’s Corner” for Friends of the Library only will be from 6 – 8:30 p.m., Sept. 8. Friends memberships will be available at the door.

“In addition to saving money by buying used books, our Used Book Sale customers are an integral part of the recent push to ‘go green’ by lengthening the shelf life of books that might otherwise be discarded,” said Arapahoe Library District Volunteer Coordinator Louise Richey.  “Repurposing books through the sale is another way to recycle these valuable titles.”

The Friends have been sorting items all year long and have put together more than 40,000 high-quality, hand-sorted books that will be available for purchase at bargain prices. As always, only the highest quality books have been selected to be sold.

Pricing is simple: hardbacks and oversized paperbacks are $2.50. Pocket-sized paperbacks, media and comic books are 50 cents. Sunday is bag day – we provide the bag and you fill it for only $6.

The Friends of the Arapahoe Library District is a special group of 500 library lovers and supporters whose primary objective is to raise funds by selling used books and Friends memberships.

These funds are allocated to the Library District in the form of grants, supporting programs and projects, such as special features for the Library District’s new libraries, events, library materials, equipment and more. So far in 2010, the Friends Board has granted the Library District $117,000.
