Rep. Mike Coffman, R-Colo., said May 11 he will run for a second term to represent the Sixth Congressional District.
“I am announcing my intention to run for reelection because I have begun a fight, but that fight is not yet finished,” Coffman said in an -email release. “When I ran for Congress, I promised to fight for conservative values and to help restore fiscal discipline to our nation’s capital. In the last few years our credit markets have crashed, our homeland has been under the constant threat of attack, and we are witnessing the largest expansion of the federal government in generations with the takeover of healthcare. It is not too late but the situation is dire.
“I am deeply proud of the work I have done on behalf of all the families, small businesses, veterans, and citizens who call Colorado’s 6th District home. Since being elected I have experienced deep frustration over so many broken processes in Washington. Listening to the worry of so many in the 6th District and having witnessed such a broken system in Congress my conviction is stronger than ever that my work to put Congress, and this nation, back on the right track is not complete.
“I will build on my legislative accomplishments, continue to uphold my conservative values, fight for the return of limited government, and work tirelessly to restore fiscal accountability to Congress.”
Coffman is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Small Business. As a first term Congressman Coffman created the first congressional caucus dedicated to passage of a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced federal budget.
During his first term Coffman also served on a special panel dedicated to reforming the Department of Defense acquisition process. The committee’s recommendations will save taxpayers billions of dollars. Coffman has also introduced water conservation legislation, improved military voting, and fought to prevent the growth of the federal government.
