Greenwood Village Mayor Nancy Sharpe leads both opponents – her Republican rival and the Democrat’s choice – in the money race in her effort to become the Arapahoe county commissioner candidate for District 2.

Sharpe is in a primary race with fellow Republican Lauri Clapp.

Sharpe’s campaign listed $18,585 in contributions, according to the filing July 20 with the Colorado Secretary of State.

That’s more than $10,000 above the $7,529 Clapp’s campaign recorded she has raised.

Democrat Rebecca McClellan reported raising $7,849. McClellan, a Centennial City Council woman, doesn’t have a primary election.

Sharpe received a $1,000 seed-money loan from Ron Rakowsky, Greenwood Village mayor pro tem, to start her campaign in April and paid it back in June.

Her major contributor has been retiree Paulette Brody, who donated $5,000.

Other major contributors to Sharpe include $2,500 from Robert A. Lembke of CAW Equities, $500 apiece from attorneys T. Edward Icenogle and Gregg C. McReynolds, $500 from Greenwood Village City Councilman Jerry Presley and $500 from Robert E. Langston of Memphis, Tenn.

Former U.S. Sen. and current Colorado Christian University President William L. Armstrong donated $400.

Clapp, a former state legislator, reported a $3,169 contribution from Friends of Lauri Clapp, which lists the same address as Clapp’s residence.

Among major contributors for Clapp is Adrian B. Ciazza, former county assessor, who has donated $900; Bonnie Tull Percefull, self-employed, who donated $500; David G. Hoffman, a self-employed consultant, who donated $600.

Walter Imhoff donated to both Republican candidates – $500 to Clapp and $2,000 to Sharpe.

Sharpe reported $7,692 funds on hand. Clapp had $6,570 left.

And McClellan had $3,693 on hand as of the filing.
