Submitted by the city of Littleton

A Littleton City Council subcommittee has announced the names of the three finalists who will interview for the vacant Littleton presiding judge position: James Anderson, Julie Anderson and T.J. Cole.

City Council is scheduled to interview the finalists in an executive session Aug. 30 and make an appointment Sept. 7. The swearing in is scheduled for Sept. 21.

A public reception for the candidates and their families is scheduled for Aug. 27 at the Littleton Center Community Room, 2255 W. Berry Ave., 4:30-6:30 p.m.

James Anderson has been an associate municipal judge for Littleton since May 2010.  He also works as a municipal relief judge for the city of Aurora.  He graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law.

Julie Anderson (no relation) has also been an associate municipal judge for Littleton since May 2010.  She was an associate and relief judge for the city of Aurora.  She is a graduate of the University of Denver College of Law.

T.J. Cole is a magistrate for the state of Colorado 20th Judicial District.  He is a graduate of the University of Denver College of Law.

One of the three would replace Judge James Kimmel, whom City Council fired earlier in the year due to a lack of due diligence on multiple cases. Littleton voters in 2009 changed the city’s charter to allow the municipal judge to come from outside of the city.

The subcommittee consisted of Mayor Pro Tem Debbie Brinkman, Councilman Bruce Stahlman, Littleton Human Resources Manager Erich Won Savage, Presiding Judge Louis A. Gresh from the Lone Tree and Castle Rock municipal courts, Lt. Dan Aten from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and James Benway from the National Center for State Courts.

The subcommittee selected the NCSC to conduct a nationwide recruitment for the vacancy. Forty candidates applied for the position.
