Close to 200 chamber investors, guests and Streets at SouthGlenn merchants gathered to celebrate the retail/entertainment/residential complex during the South Metro Chamber’s August Business After Hours last week. Held in round-robin fashion, the event allowed the group to experience the diversity that the Streets at SouthGlenn have to offer.
Starting off at the Portola Luxury Apartments, event-goers got an inside view of the development’s many amenities afforded to renters. Gathering around the crystal-clear pool and spa in the center courtyard, thirst was quenched with a selection of wines and beer provided by Grapes Wine Market as the Bill Wissing Jazz Ensemble kept the music flowing. In the beautiful community room, the newly opened Hudson Restaurant presented delicious appetizers to the guests.
Commons Park at The Streets at SouthGlenn provided an exceptional ending to a brilliant Business After Hours.
Offering six different floor plans, running the gamut from studio to full-sized three-bedroom apartments, Portola offers spectacular living in the heart of The Streets at SouthGlenn. Guests taking tours of the apartments were rewarded by means of discovering hidden prizes while touring.
“It’s great to watch The Streets of SouthGlenn grow. I met several new merchants, and I really enjoyed getting an inside view of The Portola apartments. Let’s do it again,” said Pete Foster of Vision Quest Entertainment.
Chamber President and CEO John Brackney welcomed the group and gave his view of the importance of The Streets at SouthGlenn to the local community. He kept the evening’s timetable on schedule and began the process of moving the group to its next setting – The Mellow Mushroom.
Eccentric is a word used in the pizza restaurant’s promotional materials and it is fitting. From the moment one steps through the door, one feels the vibe left over from the ‘70s. Peter Maxx-like murals, room-sized neon-lit mushrooms and rockin’ music let you know that you’re going to have some fun. As the group began to fill the seats and bar area, the Mellow Mushroom staff made quick work of providing beverages, tons of pizza and fresh salads “done the mellow way.” While slightly congested, BAH-goers had no problem networking and enjoying meeting new Chamber friends in between mouth-watering bites of pizza.
While enjoying dinner, Centennial Mayor Cathy Noon welcomed the group to the Mellow Mushroom and Morris Purcell, father of the restaurant’s owner, gave a gracious thank you for everyone coming to the restaurant. As event-goers began to feel their belts tightening due to their indulgences, another move was made to Commons Park in the middle of “The Street’s” main parkway.
The refreshing evening air was invigorating as guests mingled in the garden-like setting. Again, jazz floated on the air as the group enjoyed a fountain of non-alcoholic “champagne” provided by The Portola and a selection of delightful desserts presented by The Corner Bakery Café. Hollywood Theaters, the complex’s state-of-the-art, high-definition movie theater, gave away tickets to members of the crowd who found their covert marketing representative and offered $5 entry to the theater for anyone wanting to see a movie that night.
The night’s grand finale was the business card drawing for prizes donated by Streets at SouthGlenn merchants. The big winner of the night was Clark Duncan of Five Rings Financial who won a $250 Visa gift card which could be used anywhere in the complex and was donated by Alberta Development Partners, the area developer.
Jackie Taylor of Taylor Associates enjoyed the evening.
“This was a terrific opportunity to explore the sights at SouthGlenn. [The evening was] well thought out and great for networking. I plan to spend more time here,” Taylor said.
